WCBN Interview with Larynx Zillion 4-22-16.mp3
* admired and well respected local musician's reflection *
The band's inception was first imagined in 1983, then directly inspired shortly after hearing Adam & The Ant's peculiar glam-slam punk pop LP, "Kings of the Wild Frontier". As time grew, other influences of Laurence Bond Miller's past crept in; The poly-rhythms of American composer Charles Ives, maniacal ravings of The Crazy World of Arthur Brown, Captain Beefheart's free-flow rhythms, Cheap Trick's power pop, Killing Joke's primal perspectives, and Frank Zappa's unorthodox approach to music and R&R parody. Miller began recording the first of his compositions alone in his studio in 1987, bringing it all into full manifestation early 1990.
LARYNX ZILLION'S NOVELTY SHOP, now having completely materialized both in recording and performance, continued on in their 7 year itch with several different line ups. They released two flexi-discs, one 45rpm yellow vinyl single, and two cassette tapes as a result.
The original Shop left behind 40 tracks in the can. This double CD collection was mixed and mastered spring 2016 to accompany the "New & Improved" NOVELTY SHOP's debut concert along with a 3-song 45 rpm on orange vinyl.
LARYNX ZILLION'S "New & Improved" NOVELTY SHOP has been kicking royal butt throughout the Ann Arbor/Detroit Metro area since April 2016. They are currently recording their first CD with plans to be released in the Fall of 2017.
